Eighteen horse and rider combinations took to the Sanctuary Arena this afternoon to contest the $5,000 WEC Welcome Stake. Exactly half the class delivered fault free first rounds to qualify for the short course. Keely McIntosh and Londonderry De La Ramee (Calvaro Z x New Jersey ET Z) prevailed over the jump off track, stopping the clock at 37.985 for the win.
McIntosh and the 10-year-old Belgian Warmblood stallion, owned by Jenny Booth of Booth Show Jumpers in Georgetown, Kentucky, logged a fourth-place finish earlier this month in the $25,000 WEC Grand Prix.
Wilhelm Genn piloted his long time partner Van Gogh (Valentino x Calina Z) to the second place finish with a jump off time of 39.233. Last week at World Equestrian Center, Genn of Rheinland Farm, Lebanon, Ohio, and the a 13-year-old Oldenburg gelding won the $5,000 WEC Welcome Stake and were fourth in the $25,000 WEC Grand Prix.
Sixteen year old Caroline Nadalin of Sugar Run Farm, Plain City, OH, and El Classico, owned by Maarten Huygens, flew to a third place finish. Nadalin and the 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding stopped the jump off timers at 39.913seconds. The competitive pair earned a second place finish in last week’s $5,000 Welcome Stake.
