Ocala, FL – Week XI of the 2022 Winter Spectacular Show Series wrapped up today with the $15,000 WEC Ocala 1.45m Jumper Classic. Seventeen horse-and-rider combinations took to the WEC Grand Arena on this beautiful Florida day, to try their hand at Alan Wade’s (IRL) complex tracks. Lisa Goldman-Smolen and Barbara Disko’s Ivaro N (Elvaro x Celli) were the only pair to produce a double clear round, securing the first-place spot.
Goldman-Smolen (USA) and Ivaro N navigated a smooth first round in 70.675 seconds. “It was a backward version of last night’s grand prix. It was hard and big enough for today’s class. It rode like an Alan Wade course, a lot of fun where you could get a lot of rails, but never trappy.”
Goldman-Smolen and the nine-year-old KWPN gelding advanced straight to the jump-off, dashing through the course, leaving all rails up to stop the clock at 35.854 seconds.
“I am very proud of Ivaro N. He’s one of my younger rides. I got him as a seven-year-old from Barbara Disko. She actually bought him for me two days before I found out I was pregnant. Barbara has been very supportive, and I am so thankful for her continued support,” said Goldman-Smolen.
Goldman-Smolen has been taking her time with Ivaro N, “I think taking the time that we did with him, ended up being the best thing for him in the long run. Just a few weeks ago, he did his first FEI class where he was double clear. I was tempted to do the Welcome next week, but after today, he might be done for the circuit. Either way he will get two days off in the paddock for sure,” smiled Goldman-Smolen.
Vicente Guillen (VEN) and the scopey Cornut GP (Cornet Obolensky x Baloudera) secured the second place finish in today’s $15,000 WEC Ocala 1.45m Jumper Classic. Guillen and the nine-year-old Oldenburg stallion were the first pair to deliver a clean first round in 72.956 seconds, just within the time allowed of 73 seconds. The pair advanced to the jump-off, soaring through the course to stop the clock at 36.630 seconds, with an unfortunate rail down at the last fence.
Third place honors went to Callan Solem (USA) and Elan Farm’s gorgeous Essenar Crixus (Luidam x Touch Of Dutch). Solem and the 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding laid down a speedy first round in 70.818 seconds. The pair advanced to the jump-off, galloping around the course in 38.471 seconds, but fell victim to a trio of rails down.
