Ocala, Florida—Today, TIME reveals the annual list of the World’s Greatest Places, which highlights 100 extraordinary destinations to visit and stay worldwide. World Equestrian Center – Ocala is one of 50 hotels and resorts to make the annual list and the only Florida resort featured on the stay list. Just 13 U.S. hotels and resorts are included this year.
Recognized for its oak-lined campus in central Florida’s horse country, the resort was chosen thanks to the recent opening of The Riding Academy Hotel, which added an additional 390 rooms to the 378-acre property in March “cementing WEC’s leisure appeal” along with the property’s flagship hotel, The Equestrian, and the resort’s horse shows and events, many luxury boutiques and restaurants and “chateau-worthy wine list.”
To compile this list, TIME solicited nominations of places—including hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, parks, and more—from its international network of correspondents and contributors, as well as via an application process, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences.
