Wilmington, Ohio – It was a banner day for Izzy Beisel (USA) in the Standlee Sanctuary at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington Winter Classic 8, claiming both the win and third place honors in the $30,000 Grand Prix, and the win in the $10,000 Futures Prix.
“That was so fun. It is the first time I have won both classes too. I told my dad that I got fourth in the hunter derby yesterday and we have four fourth place ribbons at the barn. It looks bad on the banner, so I knew I needed to get better ribbons today!”
As the only junior rider in the field, Beisel dominated the class advancing to a three-horse jump-off with both of her entered mounts.
Beisel discussed her progression with her winning mount, Vegas H (Valentino x Cobrah), in the jump-offs since the beginning of their partnership, “When I first started riding Vegas, he was still a bit green and was learning how to look for turns. After the first jump today, he was looking to go inside but I opted for the outside track. I was angling the second jump, and he just has gotten so good that he knows if we jump on an angle, we are turning that way, so I turned inside after that.”
With a clear effort in 36.705 seconds, Beisel ultimately secured the lead with David Beisel’s 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding.
As the final entry, Beisel and her speedy 11-year-old Selle Francias gelding, Diaz Barbotiere (Messire Ardent x Quambera Barbotiere), posted the quickest time of 35.861 seconds with unfortunate faults to round out the top three.
“At the beginning of last year, the transition from horse to horse was definitely awkward for me. That was when I first started doing both of them in the bigger classes. I have gotten better at clearing my mind after the first horse. We go over the plan about four times, so I always have a good idea of what to do for each horse now,” said Beisel.
Welcome winner Nicole Loochtan (USA) and her own 10-year-old Belgian Sport Horse stallion, It’s Me Du Bosquetiau (Dayton Sitte x Mirette Du Bosquetiau), jumped an effortless and respectable double clear in 41.42 seconds for second place.

Beisel & Contigo Conquer the $10,000 Futures Prix at Winter Classic 8
In a seven-horse jump-off, Izzy Beisel (USA) added another $10,000 Futures Prix win to her resume at WEC – Wilmington Winter Classic 8, this time aboard David Beisel’s Contigo (Carombolle).
Contigo has just recently come into his own in the jumper ring after some indecisiveness about his career path, “I did one jumper class on him and I came out of the ring and told my dad that he needed to be a jumper, hunter, equitation horse, or a sale horse, but he just needed to choose one. So that is how we decided to make him a jumper! He has been doing great.”
The young rider of David Beisel Stables channels her contagious positive energy around WEC and in her horse-show prep. “Yesterday his activity was riding in a halter and lead rope. I used his neck rope to canter over a ground rail, that was his gymnastic work. It was really intense for him! He got a 10-minute flat with some chill music this morning,” Beisel laughed.
The 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood was sharp in the $10,000 Welcome Stake earlier in the week and carried over the jumping style for the win in 36.181 seconds.
“On my other horse, I was two seconds faster because I did the leave out in the first line of the jump-off. My dad didn’t think that I should do it on Contigo. I almost thought someone would catch me by taking a stride out there, but he made up for the time everywhere else. He was so game on today,” Beisel commented on her jump-off.
Beisel was “channeling the inner Margie Engle if you will. I figured she jumps a lot of younger, inexperienced horses and I asked myself what would Margie do?”
The nine-year-old Selle Francias gelding, Frere D’arme (Quick Star x Quamtchatka), carried Jessica Lobmiller to second place with a quick double clear just shy of the leading time in 36.387 seconds.
As the first double clear effort of the class, Nicole Loochtan found her place on the podium with her newest mount, Kupardie (Cidane x Akuparide). The nine-year-old KWPN gelding was in top form to secure third place in 37.401 seconds.
