Wilmington, Ohio – The junior athletes at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington dominated the $30,000 Grand Prix Saturday evening in the Standlee Sanctuary. In a four-horse jump-off, it was Izzy Beisel (USA) that claimed the win with the second of her two mounts, Vegas H (Valentino x Cobrah).
Beisel led the way in Joe Carnicom’s (USA) short course with her first horse, Diaz Barbotiere, and secured the quickest time with an unfortunate four faults. The young athlete came back as the last to go with the same plan in mind and was careful of the second oxer.
“On my first horse, I just wanted to keep the jumps up because he is always so fast, but I had a rail. On Vegas I didn’t want to make the same mistake at the second jump, so I was sure to be careful with that. I was lucky to have two in it because I knew the track. I caught a glimpse of Amy [Krebs] galloping from the one stride to the triple bar and I knew I really would have to go there.”
As the final entry, Beisel had to beat last week’s Grand Prix and Welcome Stake winner, Amy Krebs (USA).
The junior rider of Franklin, Tennessee, was on a roll with her top mount, Jabantos (Corsari Van De Helle x Cassima) and posted the time to beat of 38.131 seconds. Ultimately, Beisel stepped on the gas pedal landing Krebs and her 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding with the red ribbon.
Beisel galloped around the track with her 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding in 38.092 seconds to slide into the top spot for their first career grand prix win together.
Beisel discussed the camaraderie at WEC – Wilmington, “I learned so much in Florida and I think it helped my confidence a lot. To be back at WEC, it feels like we are just back at home. Everyone here is just so friendly. All of the juniors are nice to each other here. At other horse shows it can get so competitive, and everyone here is just so kind. I think something about the atmosphere here just helps people to chill out. There is just something about this place!”
In typical fashion, Beisel “was just having fun out there!”
Sam Pegg (CAN) and his quickest horse in the barn, Gin Tonic 158 (Graf Top x Hauptstutbuch), rounded out the top three. The 11-year-old Hanoverian gelding showed his fiery personality around the track and secured third place in 40.026 seconds.

Richard Rinehart & Lorstakov Claim $10,000 Arion Sellier Futures Prix Win at Winter Classic 6
The $10,000 Futures Prix sponsored by Arion Sellier kicked off featured competition Saturday of Winter Classic 6 in the Standlee Sanctuary. Richard Rinehart (USA) set the tone for the evening with a quick win aboard his family owned Lorstakov (Lordanos x Milena V).
Though he is new to the family, the 15-year-old Holsteiner gelding has an impressive grand prix record and made light work of the class.
“’Ralph’ is new to the barn. I got him from Lauren Hester, and I was really surprised that she said she would sell him to me! I have been super happy with him since he became part of our family. She owned him for at least six years, and it has been an adjustment for him. I was really proud of him today and he was great in the Welcome too,” said Rinehart.
The duo stepped around the first-round to qualify for the immediate jump-off. Rinehart galloped around the short course and utilized Lorstakov’s natural speed across the ground to stop the clock in 37.75 seconds for the win.
“The course was really good. It was bringing out the best in horse and rider combinations today. There were nice questions in the jump-off, with an oxer back to a vertical-vertical and then a long gallop to the triple bar. It really gave a horse with speed across the ground a chance to cover it,” Rinehart commented on Joe Carnicom’s track.
Izzy Beisel (USA) made her return from the sunshine state to find her place in the top three once again, this time with Olympic Van De Meyhoeve (Mabab De Reve x Doliane B). The scopey 10-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding owned by Five Way Farm LLC sped to second place with Beisel in the irons in 39.948 seconds.
Michael Janson (USA) paved the way to a bright future for the six-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding, Ringo Star PS (Cicero Z x Hivita), with a consistent, confident double clear in 40.876 seconds for third place.
