Wilmington, Ohio – Rosalie Midyette (USA) made her first trip to World Equestrian Center – Wilmington (WEC) one to remember as she raced to the win in the $30,000 CWD Grand Prix of Winter Classic 10. Peter Grant (CAN) set the stage for the field of athletes in the Standlee Sanctuary where five riders found the key to the jump-off.

Of three double clear rounds, Midyette piloted her own Luigi Van De Kornelishoeve (Carabas Vd Wateringhoeve x Ratina V/D Kornelishoeve) to the quickest effort to walk away with the blue ribbon.
“I have been riding Luigi for about six months. He just gives me wings. Honestly, I trust him more than any horse I have ever sat on in my life. I know he is going to be there for me, and I know he is going to take care of me. He is a super horse for my confidence,” Midyette spoke highly of her seasoned mount.

Emma Irwin led the way in the jump-off aboard Midyette’s nine-year-old KWPN gelding, Las Vegas (Arezzo VDL x Wilke), posting a clear effort in a time of 41.541 seconds, ultimately enough to earn third place.

Shannon Sullivan (USA) and her own 18-year-old Polish Warmblood gelding, Downtown’s Main Event, followed to stop the clock in a new leading pace of 38.281 seconds.

Midyette was pleased with the jump-off challenge set by Grant, “It was a fair course. I felt like it was a great confidence booster for me. I know I needed the experience and the turns were tight, so it was great for me to be able to get over the jump and look and move. I loved it. I couldn’t have asked for more,” she shared.

The 14-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding carried Midyette to a time of 38.058 seconds to snag the lead and move Sullivan into second place.

Midyette commented on her first experience at WEC, “We came up here to get out of the cold! I needed some confidence building tracks and this was exactly right for that. It has been fun learning to ride in this ring, it is only my second time riding in an indoor.”

Cleveland Equestrian Dominates – Megan Bash & FF A’lady Win $10,000 Futures Prix
The team at Cleveland Equestrian dominated the Standlee Sanctuary to kick start competition Saturday evening claiming the top three spots of the $10,000 Futures Prix. Megan Bash (USA) took top honors, while her student Laura Hauser (USA) earned the red ribbon, and her son, Aiden Udelson (USA) rounded out the top three.

Hauser and her 14-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding, Lucky Star Van’t Eigenlo (Echo Van’t Spieveld x Gigi Van Het Daalhof), were the first duo to jump a clear first round. The duo moved onto the immediate jump-off phase to have a heartbreaker rail at the final fence, still enough to land in second.

“The first person to jump a clear round was my student, Laura [Hauser]! She went right before me and the pressure was on for me to jump clear. I thought the track was very fair,” Bash shared. “Peter [Grant] has done a lot of long, flowy bending lines up and down the ring giving you options. It was really good for riders that ride off their eye. For me, to have so much time in between the jumps in certain places was really fun.”

Bash followed with her new addition to the barn, FF A’lady (Aganix Du Seigneur Z x Ciolita W), to post the second and only other clear effort.

“I am so excited because this is the first Futures Prix that I have done on my seven-year-old, FF A’lady. I just got her and I am getting to know her. She just really stepped up to the plate today. She is a great horse and just showed everybody how to do it today!”
The Belgian Warmblood mare stepped up in the class effortlessly, jumping the only double clear effort to lead the victory gallop.

“I plan my winter to come here. It is such a great experience for the horses, to bring along young ones and to get the amateurs more mileage. My son has been jumping a lot this winter and doing great. I was glad to win today and remind him who is in charge,” Bash laughed after her win.

Udelson and Cleveland Equestrian’s 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, Jackson VDL (Zirocco Blue VDL x Design O), were the fastest four faulters to claim third place.
