Sharn Wordley Sweeps the Top Two Spots in the $50,000 Hampton Green Farms National Grand Prix

Ocala, FL – The $50,000 Hampton Green Farms National Grand Prix closed out Week V of the 2025 Summer Series at World Equestrian Center – Ocala (WEC) with an action-packed morning in the WEC Grand Arena. Thirty-eight top horse-and-rider combinations came forward, but it was Sharn Wordley (NZL) who stole the show, claiming both first and second place aboard Mick Jagger (Chacco-Blue x Centina 10) and Valentine Car (Son of Juan Car x Sofia Car), respectively, both owned by Della Wordley.

Course designer Peter Grant (CAN) crafted a technical track that yielded 12 clear rounds, setting the stage for a thrilling jump-off. Wordley qualified all three of his mounts and was the first to return with Mick Jagger, a 17-year-old Hanoverian gelding.

He had a solid plan for the seasoned gelding: “I planned the seven, and then I knew I could be quick on the right turn and do nine strides to the oxer. A couple people did it, but mostly not. So I planned to go fast enough to put the pressure on, but not crazy fast. But he was still pretty fast.”

A blistering fast time of 39.711 seconds ultimately proved uncatchable, and Wordley secured the top spot.

Last to return aboard Valentine Car, fresh off a win in Friday’s $15,000 C. Jarvis Insurance Welcome Prix, Wordley gave it another strong shot. He piloted the 16-year-old Warmblood gelding to a slick round in 39.777 seconds, just a fraction off his own leading time.

“I was a little conservative on [Valentine Car] because I knew I just needed to be as fast as the other one. I think I was a hundredth of a second off,” he explained. 

It’s been a banner week for Wordley, whose partner Lauren Balcomb also topped the $130,000 Wheels Up Grand Prix CSI3* the night before. “Great week. There was only one class we didn’t win, and we were third in the first speed class. We won every other class—wow, it’s amazing. It doesn’t happen often like that!”

Last week’s $50,000 National Grand Prix winner, Tracy Fenney (USA), secured herself another podium finish, this time with Nina Koloseike’s MTM Can Talk To Me (Catoki x Ocarina). Fenney and the nine-year-old Holsteiner mare were right behind the winning pair, stopping the clock just hundredths of a second off the pace in 39.783 seconds for third place.

Maya Denis rode her own Callypso De La Hamente Z to the Fastest Four-Falter award with a quick first-round time of 73.410 seconds and one rail down.

Isabelle Song received the Luck of the Draw award.
