Ivy Lampert Earns First Ever Hunter Derby Win at WEC – Wilmington Summer 1
10 JUL 26 Wilmington, OH
Wilmington, Ohio – Twenty-two horse-and-rider combinations met in the picturesque Main Hunter Arena at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington (WEC) Friday afternoon for the $9,999 Open Hunter Derby, but the day belonged to Ivy Lampert as she secured her first ever derby victory riding Waboca V.i. (Wizzerd x Taboca).

The win was “unreal,” she said with a smile, but it was made even more special because of her partnership with “Howie.”

“This is actually my sister’s horse, and I got to take over the reins a little bit last year. I am incredibly grateful to her for letting me ride him. It’s been such an incredible journey. He’s taken me so far, and I’ve learned so much with him,” she noted. “He just took me around my first Junior Hunter Finals, and he couldn’t have been any better. To win this derby here means so much because I love Ohio. This show feels like home to me, and it’s where my journey with this horse started. It’s so special that my first derby win was at WEC!”
Lampert posted an early high score as the 12th to go in the order of 92, marking the highest score of her career.

“My first round was my first time ever getting a 92, so that was really exciting. It was by far one of the most consistent rounds I’ve ever had on him and one of the best rounds I’ve ever put together myself, so that was a huge accomplishment. I was kind of freaking out going into the handy,” she laughed.

She returned for the handy aboard the 14-year-old KWPN gelding, earning an 88.5 to finish on a winning two-round total of 180.5.

“The first jump was definitely the hardest part right by the gate, but I knew in the schooling ring he was right there with me. The turn to two came up nicely, and from there everything just flowed. I loved the track,” Lampert shared her thoughts on the second-round track.

Izzy Beisel once again found her place on the podium, securing second place with a pair of 89s riding the Beisels’ eight-year-old Belgian Sport Horse gelding, Cygnet (Greco Sitte x Ginger).

Molly McAdow rounded out the top three with 11-year-old Oldenburg gelding, Platinum (Cornet Obolensky x Pretty Woman), with a two-round total of 178.5.
