Tina Judge-Boyle & Carlo El Guapo Capture the $9,500 WEC 3’ Open Hunter Derby at Spring 1
22 MAY 26 Wilmington, OH
Wilmington, Ohio – The hunters took the spotlight on Friday afternoon at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington (WEC) Spring 1 for the $9,500 WEC 3’ Open Hunter Derby. Despite the rainy, windy day, horses and riders were at their best, with scores reaching the high 80s and 90s.
In the end, Tina Judge-Boyle claimed the winning title aboard Felice Hybert’s Carlo El Guapo (Cinsey x Belle).

The 12-year-old Warmblood gelding captivated the judging panel with his picturesque style and expression and is a barn favorite for the team at Judgement Farm.

“We’ve had him for two years now and he was a jumper when we bought him, but he loves his new job as an adult amateur horse,” Judge-Boyle smiled. “I do him in the performance and some derbies and he has been quite successful. He’s really come along and he enjoys his new job as a hunter. I am so thankful to his owner, Felice Hybert, for letting me have the ride on him today!”
The duo earned a first-round score of 90 and returned for the handy sitting in second place.

“I love to be really handy, and this horse is all game for it, so I just wanted to be as slick as I could and just kind of show him off so people could see that he can jump and turn. So, it was a lot of fun,” she said.
A second-round score of 87 and a two-round total of 177 secured their win.
“We really enjoy coming to Wilmington. It’s so nice,” she added. “It’s always a nice variety of competitors, and the rings are big and beautiful. We love to show here, the customers enjoy it, and the horses really like it.”

Consistency paid off for Melissa Donnelly, who piloted Brooke Moore’s 10-year-old Oldenburg gelding, Clooney LB (Caesar x Beatrice Von Wessenberk), to double 87s to earn second place.

Devin Milan and her own 12-year-old Hanoverian mare, R Du Sol (Rubignon x Winsome Ways), rounded out the top three with scores of 86 and 87.75.
