Ocala, FL – Feature competition kicked off this afternoon with the $24,000 C. Jarvis Insurance Welcome Prix. FEI Level III course designer Anderson Lima (MEX) built the welcoming tracks for a field of top-notch competitors, but it was Luis Sabino Goncalves (POR) and Sigma Stables LLC’s Vick Du Croisy (Lord Carthago x Merveille Ducroisy) that took the lead.

Luis Sabino Goncalves piloted both his mounts, Scoop De Septon Z and Vick Du Croisy to a clear first round to return for the jump-off. “It was a nice course to ride, it wasn’t very tough, but it had a few questions,” shared Goncalves about the first-round track.

In the jump-off, Goncalves set the time to beat with Scoop De Septon Z at a quick 35.890 seconds. His time was quickly surpassed by Richard Spooner (USA) and Molly Ohrstrom’s Halcon (Con Air 7 x Jota-e Calista). Spooner piloted the nine-year-old Argentinian Sport Horse stallion to a blistering fast track in 35.717 seconds.

Samantha Schaefer upped the ante aboard Bonne Vie LLC’s 14-year-old KWPN gelding Frasier (Carambole x Bloem) clocking a time less than a tenth of a second quicker in 35.685 seconds.

“I thought I did a quick enough round with Scoop to be in the top three, but there are always fast riders here. After I watched Richard and Samantha beat my time, I got determined. I tried to be as fast as possible and it worked,” shared Goncalves about his plan with Vick Du Croisy in the jump-off.

Goncalves used the 15-year-old Selle Francais mare’s quick footspeed to his advantage, stopping the clock in a mere 34.482 seconds to take the win.

The Welcome Prix is helping aid Goncalves with his preparation for the four-and-five star international events later in the series, “In the four-and-five-star events you usually have to jump two or three days out of the week, so I am conditioning my horses now and working on their fitness. I hope to do the four-and-five-star competitions with ‘Scoop’ and show ‘Vick’ in the World Cup™ qualifier at Live Oak. It’s perfect because it fits right into the schedule.”
