Nina Mallevaey and My Clementine Sweep the Speeds

Ocala, FL – In an astonishing performance, 25-year-old Nina Mallevaey (FRA) and My Clementine, owned by Rein Family LLC and Tara Dow-Rein, won their third class of the week, this time taking the win in the $62,500 1.50m Speed CSI5*-W. They raced through the one-round course set by Bernardo Costa Cabral (POR) with no faults in 58.72 seconds. The speed queens also won the Two Phase Special on Thursday and the Winning Round class on Friday.
Second place in the $62,500 1.50m Speed CSI5*-W went to McKayla Langmeier (USA) riding Pepita vd Rollebeek, a 10-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare (Otangelo x Toulon) owned by Rafferty Farm LLC, who were clear in 60.10 seconds. With a time of 60.34 seconds, Rene Dittmer (GER) and Chelsea 179, a 10-year-old Oldenburg mare (Cador x Laudabilis) owned by Live Oak Plantation LLC, finished third.
Mallevaey felt that Saturday’s course design suited My Clementine, a 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare by O.B.O.S. Quality x Kashmir van Schuttershof that not only covers the ground quickly but turns well too.
“It was something that Clem is really good in. She is so fast on the ground and so careful,” she described. “I did one less stride from jumps one to two. It was a normal eight strides, but I took an angle from the first one to do seven strides direct. I think I gained a little bit of time there. When I ask her to go fast, she has a really big stride, so that helped me too. The rest was quite good. There were some good turns. It was a good speed class because we could turn tight a few places. She did everything so well, and I’m so, so happy with her.”
After Friday’s victory, Mallevaey and her team were debating whether to go in Saturday’s class, but after getting her out Saturday morning, Mallevaey knew that “Clem” was ready.
“She had a week off last week, and she’s having a week off next week. The plan was to see how she felt this morning to see if she still had the energy to do a third class,” she explained. “I did some stretching with her this morning, and she still felt really good and fresh. In the warm-up she was also really fresh and happy. I think she’s in good condition. It was a good decision to do this third class.
Mallevaey said that the significance of this week has not eluded her. “This week I think she earned more than 200 ranking points, which is crazy. In my entire life I’ve never had that many points in a week,” she said. “I’m so grateful to have her on my side. To have that kind of week is special. It’s never happened to me before, and I think I really need to enjoy it because it’s not going to happen every week. I’m so proud of her.”
While Saturday night’s $300,000 Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Ocala will conclude FEI competition this week, jumper classes will continue on Sunday, February 16, at 1pm with the $40,000 Hampton Green Farm National Grand Prix.
