Ocala, FL – A large field of 53 entries was whittled down to eight to return for the jump-off in the $15,000 Buckeye NutritionFutures Prix, held under the lights in the WEC Grand Arena as the Friday evening feature on March 22 in the final week of the Winter Spectacular Show Series. Rodrigo Lambre (BRA) and his own Jalapeno Hedoniste were the fastest of three double clears in 38.095 seconds over the short course to take home victory.
Luis Sabino Goncalves (POR) piloted Katniss Du Val Geer, owned by Sigma Stables LLC, to second place in 38.932 seconds, while Callie Schott (USA), who placed third in the previous evening’s $330,000 Lugano Diamonds Grand Prix CSIO5* with Garant, took home another yellow ribbon, this time with Ironix, owned by Southern Arches LLC. Schott and Ironix crossed the timers in 41.125 seconds.
Lambre and Jalapeno Hedoniste have only been paired together for less than six months, and Lambre has exclusively competed with her at WEC – Ocala.
“She’s a winner,” said Lambre of the nine-year-old SBS mare by Exxon Hedonist x Ogano Sitte. “She’s the type of those that fights for you. Everybody wants to have one of these in the barn. Many people don’t like chestnut mares, but I love them. You have to understand them and once they work with you, they’re quite unbeatable. I have been very successful with mares in my career. They are special every day dealing with them, but once they understand you and you understand them, they really fight for you.”
Lambre came to WEC – Ocala during week three of the 2024 Winter Spectacular Show Series. He noted, “Once I got here, I said, ‘Okay, I want to stay here.’ It’s really special for us. I came with many green horses, and they are really building up. There are not many places in the world you can do this like you can here.
“My plan is to bit by bit come here to Ocala and bring more people,” added Lambre, who is based in Mexico. “Everybody has to see and feel it to understand what I’m talking about. Horses definitely like it here.”
Lambre will be cheering on his friends on the Brazilian team in Saturday’s Longines League of Nations™ Team Competition. “It is really special to be competing this week with all of these riders in this unbelievable place,” he enthused.
