Ocala, FL – On Friday afternoon, 33 developing combinations competed over an elaborate track set by FEI Level IV course designer Bernardo Costa Cabral (POR) in the $15,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prix. Ten athletes managed to find their way to the short course, but Adeline Rohrbach (USA) and Bengtsson (Buballu VDL x Uzmakieka VDL) owned Lisa Goldman-Smolen surpassed the group with a blistering fast time.
Rohrbach and Bengtsson found a clear first round track well under the time allowed of 76 seconds to advance straight to the jump-off.
Rohrbach has only been riding the 12-year-old KWPN gelding for a few weeks, “I started riding him a few weeks ago. He’s owned by my trainer Lisa. She has had him since he was eight and they have competed in the 1.30m and 1.40m successfully. She let me hop on him and we got along pretty well. He’s a little pocket rocket – tiny, but fast.”
The pair went straight to the jump-off, “I had a simple plan to not touch the reins and let him do what he does best, go fast. He’s the fastest horse I have ever ridden and he’s so trusting. I was able to just stay tidy and let him cover the ground.”
Rohrbach and Bengtsson flew through the timers in 34.779 seconds to ultimately secure first place.
Adolopho Franco (BRA) and Capital Equine LLC’s 11-year-old KWPN mare Hanea (Cardento x Dolcunea O.A.) took home second place honors with a quick time of 35.007 seconds.
Robert Mendoza (USA) rounded out the top three with Molly McPherson’s 13-year-old KWPN mare United M (Baloubet Du Rouet x United) after the pair were quick and clean in 35.865 seconds.
