Wilmington, Ohio – Featured competition began at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington Spring II Thursday afternoon with the $7,500 Welcome Stake sponsored by Clinton County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CCCVB). Kady Abrahamson (USA) claimed the win over Bobby Murphy’s (USA) tracks, as she proved uncatchable aboard Banco Du Moulin (Popstar x Lozonais x Gerboise Du Moulin).
Abrahamson, of Georgetown, Kentucky, entered the ring immediately after Keely McIntosh (USA) and set a leading pace for the rest of the field with Booth Show Jumpers Inne Van De Plataan (Zurich x Fame Van De Plataan).
McIntosh of Georgetown, Kentucky, guided the 15-year-old Belgian Warmblood mare to a blazing fast time of 30.575 seconds in the short course, ultimately enough to secure the red ribbon.
It was a race to the finish when Abrahamson entered aboard her winning mount. The 12-year-old Selle Francais gelding, Banco Du Moulin, was in careful form and galloped quickly across the ground through each inside turn to post a time of 30.514 seconds, just quick enough to edge out McIntosh and take the lead. Abrahamson also earned fourth place with her own Jazil Du Houssoit (Peppermill x Gerboise Du Houssoit).
“Banco came to me at the end of April, I am leasing him from Kate Mulligan. I showed him last week and he had one down in each class, but he jumped great and today we felt back to normal. He jumped so well in the first round today, and he was great in the jump-off. I was a bit more conservative in the jump-off with him than usual, but he is naturally so fast that a conservative plan for him ends up winning the class,” Abrahamson spoke on Banco Du Moulin.
Richard Rinehart (USA) of Rinehart Farm in Westfield, Indiana, earned third-place honors with his competitive mount, Vincent (Van Gogh x Nirande). With Rinehart in the irons, Ron Caraway’s 11-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding utilized his large stride through the unrelated lines, but two wider turns landed the duo a time of 31.546 seconds to secure a podium finish.
