November 18, 2023 – Ocala, FL – U.S. Olympian Jan Ebeling and his top mount, Jubi’s Tenacity, scored their second win in a row at the World Equestrian Center (WEC) November Dressage CDI3* sponsored by Hampton Green Farm and Discover Dressage on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at World Equestrian Center – Ocala.
Ebeling and Jubi’s Tenacity, a 13-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding by Tailormade Temptation x Blue Hors Don Schufro owned by Ann Romney, led the lap of honor for the second day in row in the Grand Prix Special CDI3* after winning Friday’s Grand Prix CDI3* class. They were also the only combination again to score above 70% and were 1.5% clear of the next competitor. The judges’ panel included Raphaël Saleh (FRA), Marlena Gruca-Rucinska (POL), Maria Colliander (FIN), Clive Hallsell (GBR) and Janet Foy (USA).
“The week has been great,” acknowledged Ebeling. “Yesterday’s test was awesome. He was maybe not as fresh as yesterday, which is typical for the second day. This is a long test with a lot of extensions, a lot of passage. I think I can really trust the horse. He knows his stuff, and he didn’t make any mistakes. He felt really good, just not quite as fiery as yesterday.”
Once again, “Jubi” excelled in the pirouette movements, which garnered 8s from two judges in the pirouette to the left. Ebeling remarked, “He was really good in the piaffes today, and I thought the passage was quite nice. But definitely his pirouettes are awesome. It’s just one of those things he’s really good at, and I don’t have to really do much about it.”
Ebeling added that winning is wonderful, but he especially appreciated the venue. “It’s really wonderful to win in a place like this,” he said, “an amazing place where everything is right; the footing is right, the stabling is right, the whole ambience is fantastic. I love being here.
“I hope we will continue on in this trend,” he added. “It’s like a family affair with my wife Amy here and my son Ben competing as well. I’m very lucky to have a horse like that, so it’s a big thank you to Ann. I also had support from Christoph Koschel and my dear friend Robert Dover.”
Stepping into second place were Ellesse Gundersen (PHI) and Quintessential 4, a nine-year-old Hanoverian gelding by Quaterback 6 x Cordoba she owns with Henrik Gundersen and Marcia Radosevich. They had a personal best score of 69.553%. Denielle Gallagher (CAN) and Come Back De Massa, an 11-year-old Lusitano gelding by Galopin de la Font x Quixote SDS owned by Gallagher and Ellen Lazarus, slotted into third place with a personal best score of 67.447%.
Rounding out the day, Amina Bursese (USA) and C Discreto, her own nine-year-old PRE stallion by Machin x Carbonero V, won the Intermediate I CDIAm with a score of 62.765%. Bursese picked up her second win in the Grand Prix CDIAm with Fiti AL, her 19-year-old Andalusian stallion by Jondo x Empaque, with a score of 64%. In the Grand Prix 16-25 CDIU25, Nicole Scarpino (USA) and Lambada 224 won with 64.026%.
