Ocala, FL – The $40,000 1.45m Two Phase Special CSI3* was the highlight event of the morning at World Equestrian Center – Ocala. Catsy Cruz (MEX) laid the intricate two-phase track for a field of top-level show jumping athletes. Competition was fierce, with the top placings determined by mere tenths of a second. Sharn Wordley (NZL) showcased exceptional speed riding Della Wordley’s Mick Jagger (Chacco-blue x Dobel’s Cento), ultimately claiming the majority of the prize money.
Wordley has had quite the success during the 2023 December Show Series, with four podium finishes last week and a fourth-place finish with Mick Jagger during last night’s Grand Prix Qualifier CSI3*.
The two-phase track benefitted Mick Jagger well after last night’s competition, “This particular course suited him really well. He went quite fast last night in the jump-off, so I was able to use the first part of the course to add some steps and slow him down. In the speed portion, there was nothing to really slow down for, so I could just let him gallop around.”
Stopping the clock in a mere 33.09 seconds in the second phase, Wordley and Mick Jagger moved their way up to the top of the leaderboard.
“He’s a machine. He is quick but could be quicker. But, if he goes too fast, sometimes it always doesn’t seem to work out, so I just go at the pace he likes. He’s probably my most consistent horse,” shared Wordley about Mick Jagger.
David Cameron (AUS) secured his second podium finish of the week with Laura Sloey’s Beijing Ls La Silla with a quick time of 33.88 seconds.
Third place was earned by Luis Larrazabal (VEN) and Abril Kontendra, an eight-year-old Warmblood mare owned by San Francisco Stables LLC. Larrazabal and Abril Kontendra were just behind Cameron with a time of 33.90 seconds.
