Wilmington, Ohio – Amy Krebs (USA) stood alone as the only clear effort in the $10,000 Welcome Stake of World Equestrian Center – Wilmington Winter Classic 10. Not only did the junior rider take top honors with Avanti Sporthorses LLC’s Hey Alexa (Elvis Ter Putte x Grenache VD Merrihoeve), but also second place with her top mount Jabantos (Corsari Van De Helle x Cassima).
With a single rail on both of her first two entered mounts, Krebs returned to master Michael Pegg’s (CAN) track as the final entry with Hey Alexa.
“My first one was a little hard in the warm-up, but he was better than I expected! His rail was my fault. The rail that I had on my second horse was just unlucky. By the time I did ‘Lexi’, I had two and I felt like I hadn’t gotten it right yet! I really wanted to correct the mistakes that I made on my other two. The first half of the course I rode a lot better on her,” said Krebs.
Amongst her many featured wins, this one proved special for Krebs, being the first featured class at 1.35m that the eight-year-old Warmblood mare had ever jumped. “I had faith in her! The first time she jumped in a 1.30m class was when we were here two weeks ago. I didn’t expect her to jump clear today, but I knew she had in her. She stepped up to the plate. For her to come in here and jump that track clean in her very first welcome is a really special moment for her career.”
Krebs claimed the red ribbon with her 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, Jabantos, with the fastest four-fault score in 71.481 seconds.
Wilhelm Genn (GER) proved the successful development of his own 11-year-old Danish Warmblood mare, Quincidence (Charleston K x Quilotte), with an unlucky rail but a consistent round in 73.081 seconds to round out the top three.
