Wilmington, Ohio – This week’s Wilmington Sunday Spotlight shines on the 14-year-old rider of David Beisel Stables, Aiden Clark. Aiden spends most of his time in Wilmington between showing at World Equestrian Center (WEC) and studying at WEC’s Dragonfly Academy. The young rider is a friendly face around the facility and is always piloting new projects around each ring. We caught up with Aiden to learn more about his riding journey!
WEC: How did you get started riding?
My mom always used to ride western when she was growing up. She rode in the old Robert’s Arena! We bought a farm a couple of years ago and we got a pony. Ever since I have been into it. I ride with David Beisel now. He is the best. He is really in-depth about everything. He is so nice and genuine, and he is a really great coach.
WEC: Tell us about Dragonfly Academy.
I am in eighth grade. It is so flexible. I can come over here if I need to help at the barn or if I am showing. I can still get all my schoolwork done. Sam and everyone there are so nice.
WEC: Tell us about the horses you showed this week, Pedro and Celynos.
I showed a horse owned by Ian Roberts. His name is Pedro. He is just six and he is still learning. He is a speed demon!
I also showed a horse of Kostadin Kalanov’s in the 1.10m named Celynos. He is really big, he is 17.3h. We are in the final stages of purchasing him! We are going to keep him for a bit, and then eventually sell him and get another one. I am really thankful to Kosta for giving me the opportunity to ride him, he is so fun. I am excited to start a new partnership with him and see where we can go.
WEC: What is your favorite part about riding?
Being able to learn the horses. I like riding different horses and figuring them out. With Pedro, you can’t touch his mouth to the base of the jump because he turns into a rabbit. You have to let him do his thing. I also love to help David in the barn.
WEC: What is your favorite thing about WEC?
There are so many different classes to show in. I can do the jumpers, hunters and equitation so easily. It has been really beneficial for me to learn all three rings here. My favorite thing to do when I’m not showing is to help David and Kosta in the barn.
WEC: What are your future riding goals?
I want to keep moving up. I love to develop horses. I don’t like riding the made ones that just go around for you. I like helping horses work through things.
Thank you, Aiden, for taking the time to speak with us! We wish you continued success in and out of the show ring!
