WILMINGTON, Ohio – February 11, 2019 – At this time, the World Equestrian Center (WEC) in Wilmington, Ohio has had no confirmed cases of the Equine Influenza Virus.
Because horses have tested positive for Equine Influenza Virus after leaving the facility, WEC owner Roby Roberts and horse show manager Vinny Card have been working closely with WEC horse show veterinarian Dr. Holly Helbig to monitor horses stabled at WEC. Dr. Helbig and Mr. Roberts have also been in contact with Dr. Stephen Shumacher, Chief Administrator of the United States Equestrian Federation Equine Drugs and Medications Program.
On Friday, February 8, the FEI released guidelines to the equestrian community to protect horses from and prevent the transmission of Equine Influenza Virus, following confirmed cases in Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland and the United States since the beginning of the year.
The World Equestrian Center encourages all horse owners to follow biosecurity protocol, and to review and abide by the recommendations issued by the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF).
