Wilmington, Ohio – A rainy evening at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington (WEC) did not stop Izzy Beisel from sweeping the day, claiming the win in the $35,000 Grand Prix aboard David Beisel and Courtney Berling’s, Vegas H.
Robert Barton designed the first-round track that allowed six horse-and-rider combinations to return for the jump-off.
The rain rolled in as Ramiro Quintana entered aboard the Quintana Show Stables LLC entry, Jones (Carrera VDL x Cinderella), to contest the short course.
Quintana and the 11-year-old KWPN gelding jumped a smooth, clear second round for a time of 36.160 seconds for a momentary lead.
Beisel and the seasoned 12-year-old Hanoverian gelding entered posting a quick and clear effort in 34.675 seconds to take the lead, moving Quintana into second place.
Beisel expressed her gratitude for the ride on Vegas, “I want to thank Courtney Berling for the opportunity to ride Vegas. He’s such a special horse and I am so grateful for the support and the team around me.”
Sarah Sturges and her own nine-year-old American Warmblood gelding, Labyrinth (Zirocco Blue VDL x Warone), rounded out the top three with four-faults in the jump-off in 37.041 seconds.
Beisel & Triskel De Kerliven Dominate $10,000 CWD Futures Prix of Summer II
A nine-horse jump-off in the $10,000 CWD Futures Prix was no match for Izzy Beisel as she sped to the win with Liz Hutchinson’s seasoned Triskel De Kerliven (MyLord Carthago x Herinys L’enchante).
The 18-year-old Selle Francais gelding is Beisel’s, “only true three ring horse that I have ever gotten to ride. He can do anything,” she shared.
“I did him in the big derby yesterday. He kind of tried to buck me off in the first round but had a beautiful handy round but I had a rail down,” Beisel laughed. “It was just his prep for today.”
Preparing for the class today, Beisel noted, “I wasn’t expecting much today but I decided to go fast in the jump-off. I think we are both really competitive and he just always tries his heart out. He is so much fun.”
The duo jumped a clear first round to move onto the immediate jump-off phase and was unable to be caught as the X pair to go with a time of 31.521 seconds.
“Beau is such an amazing horse. I want to thank Liz Hutchinson for letting me show him. He is a real-life unicorn. My brother got to show him first and it is special that I get to do him now. He is such a sweetheart,” Beisel said.
Emily Reder piloted her own 10-year-old Selle Francais mare, Favorite Du Chateau (Kannan x Javotte Du Chateau), claimed the red ribbon in 32.053 seconds.
Rounding out the top three was Alexandria Nelson and the 13-year-old Oldenburg mare, Eldoranda Z (Eldorado Van De Zeshoek x Grunes Land), owned by Thinkslikeahorse, in 32.994 seconds.
