Ocala, FL – Thirty-four aspiring stars of show jumping took to the WEC Grand Arena early this morning to compete in the $15,000 Buckeye Nutrition Futures Prix at World Equestrian Center – Ocala. Katie Eppinger (USA) and her own Chaccos Cherry PS (Chaccos Blue x Gold Cherry) set the pace early in the order, and couldn’t be caught to ultimately gallop away with the lion’s share of the prize money.
Horses were jumping in top form today, as 15 managed to find the path to a clear round over a course built by Guilherme Jorge (BRA).
Eppinger went early in the order, so she wasn’t able to watch much of the jump-off, but was confident with her plan, “After I walked, I had a pretty good plan. We wanted to turn tight and leave one out in two places in the jump-off. [Chaccos Cherry PS] was there for everything, and each jump came up perfectly.”
The duo raced around the track, never pumping the brakes to fly through the timers in 39.842 seconds for the victory.
The 12-year-old Oldenburg mare is still a new partner for Eppinger, “We only just started showing her in August. We bought her at the end of June, and I couldn’t be happier with our progress. She’s an amazing mare. She’s game, super sweet, and the kind of horse that will always be there for you,” Eppinger expressed. “We are working up to do some two-star competitions this season. She just keeps impressing us.”
Eppinger is looking forward to returning to World Equestrian Center – Ocala, “I love it here, we have a great time. We have been coming up every December, and we come for a few weeks in the summer. It’s a beautiful facility, the classes are amazing, and the prizes are gorgeous. We are looking forward to coming back even more.”
Chloe Reid (USA) piloted Live Oak Plantation’s nine-year-old Hanoverian mare Charlotta II (Cascadello x Fiodora 13) to a super quick jump-off track in 40.355 seconds for second place.
Just one tenth of a second behind Reid, was Beat Mändli (SUI) and Grant Road Partners Gmbh’s 15-year-old KWPN mare Dsarie (Veron x Tinette) with a time of 40.478 seconds to round out the top three.
