Wilmington, Ohio – The $15,000 Kerrits USHJA National Open Hunter Debry was the highlight event of the evening at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington Winter Classic 15, with a field of decorated hunter athletes making their way over Joe Carnicom’s (USA) winding tracks. Canada’s Kristjan Good and Victoria Sawrantschuk’s Lordy (Lord Pezi Junior x Que D) ultimately mastered the tracks to secure the win.
Good managed to hold the lead for the entirety of the class, coming back in the top spot for the handy with a first-round score of 94.
“A friend of mine, Whitney Gibson, is the trainer on Lordy. She called me down here to help with him a little bit and we both think he is going to be a really spectacular horse,” Good shared about Lordy.
Good has done most of his recent winnings on brand new horses. When it comes to going in on unfamiliar mounts, Good stated, “I enjoy it the most. I have no expectations,” he laughed.
“I liked the first round a lot. It made you really ride and make your own decisions as a rider. I find that for me, over courses like this if I don’t have a plan to stick to, its okay. I just trust myself,” Good shared. “The handy was fun. It would have been even more fun if I had a more seasoned one, but it was his first time. He really rose to the occasion.”
The eight-year-old Hanoverian gelding showcased experience beyond his years for an effortless score of 90 in second round to take the lead with an overall score of 184.

Madison Cadieux-Moran & Lewis Van De Kampel Best the $15,000 USHJA National Non-Pro Hunter Derby
Twenty-nine horse-and-rider combinations took to the R+L Arena Friday afternoon to kick off Hunter Derby Friday of Winter Classic 15. In the end, it was Canada’s Madison Cadieux-Moran and her own Lewis Van De Kampel that delivered the two most consistent rounds over Joe Carnicom’s tracks to best the field.
Cadieux-Moran holds a special place for her 13-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding, “This is our third year together. He is so special because he is what we call our three-ring king! We do the 1.20m and the CET, which is our equitation medal at home. He can also do the derbies! He is so special to me for doing all of the jobs.”
The duo landed a first-round score of 90, returning for the handy phase sitting in fourth place.
Cadieux-Moran expressed her thoughts on the tracks and her plan for the handy, “I thought that it was a bit more exciting than last week’s pattern today! In the handy portion I just wanted to ensure that I made all of those inside turns. I did everything I could to put in my best trip, and it paid off for us today!”
With the highest score in the second round of 92, the pair secured the lead with a two-round total of 182.
Hailing from Ottawa, Canada, the young amateur shared her thoughts on their annual trip to World Equestrian Center – Wilmington, “We come here for two weeks every year. I love coming to this show. We have only been here a handful of times, but I love the environment here. It is so peaceful and it really sets us up for our summer circuit back at home and gives us that extra boost of confidence. We are just so grateful to be here and we love the facility!”
