World Equestrian Center – Wilmington has placed the following health and safety protocols for all horses showing during the 2023 Winter in the Midwest Series.
To facilitate the inspection process by World Equestrian Center – Wilmington personnel, all paperwork including negative coggins, vaccine records, and a signed Statement of Health must be available throughout their stay and must be presented to the Horse Show office upon arrival. If a new arriving horse does not have the following paperwork upon arrival the horse will not be permitted on the facility grounds.
Statement of Health (30 days) – Required for all horses arriving from instate or outside the state of Ohio. The statement of health must be dated within 30 days of check in, affirming that the horses entering the facility have not had an elevated temperature, been to a facility where there has been a positive or suspected positive case of EHV, and receive routine vet care and vaccinations. The Statement of Health must be signed by a licensed veterinarian and on the vet’s letterhead.
Negative Coggins (12 months) – Proof of a current negative Coggins test within 12 months.
Vaccinations (6 months) – It is required all horses be vaccinated for Equine-EHV I/IV (either modified live or killed vaccine) no sooner than 7 days prior to and no later than 180 days (6 months) prior to entering the show grounds. Most EHV-1 vaccines are only considered effective for 180 days. Please check with your veterinarian about which vaccine is right for your horse. We strongly recommend vaccinations against WNV, EEE, WEE, Tetanus and Rabies.
After Arrival
Please take measures to document your horse’s normal temperature and maintain a log of temperatures taken at least twice daily. If there is an elevated temperature for more than a 24-hour period, please consult your veterinarian immediately.
Any horse with a temperature reading higher than 101.5 or any signs of respiratory or neurological disease must immediately be reported to Dr. Holly Helbig at 330.807.2643 and show management at 352.857.4572.
We encourage all exhibitors to establish and practice good hygiene in their daily stable routine and with horses that are traveling. Communicate hygiene practices to your barn staff.
