Wilmington, Ohio – A picturesque summer afternoon at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington set the scene for the $10,000 USHJA National Open Hunter Derby of Summer II, where 27 horse-and-rider combinations vied for top honors over Bobby Murphy’s tracks.
The Rinehart family ultimately swept the competitive class, with Richard Rinehart and Front Row Sport Horses’ Cosworth taking the win, and Catherine Rinehart close behind in second place with Donald Stewart’s No Secret.
“This was our first derby together. We have had him in the barn for about four months. His owner shows him in the adult hunters and we are really happy to have him. We are looking forward to the future with this one,” Richard Rinehart spoke about Cosworth.
Richard Rinehart and the 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding by El Primero entered the handy phase in the lead with a first-round score of 89. “I thought it was a very nice course. I liked that you had to do a bending line off each lead and in the handy there were a lot of options. Given that I was coming back with a comfortable lead, I didn’t take any big chances in the handy. I didn’t feel like I had to with the way my horse jumped,” he noted.
Laying down a near perfect second round, the duo took the win with a second-round score of 92 for an overall score of 181.
Catherine Rinehart piloted No Secret, an 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood by RMF Cadeau De Muze, to scores of 88 and 87 for a two-round total of 175 for the red ribbon.
Erin Hughes and Aniston William’s 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood by Fly Over Omhg, Jailhouse Jumper Omhg, rounded out the top three with scores of 83.5 and 87 and an overall score of 170.5.
