Wilmington, Ohio – The final $10,000 Kinetic Vet Welcome Stake of the 2024 Winter in the Midwest Series commenced in the Standlee Sanctuary with Canada’s Sarah Long securing her place on top of the podium with Alan Manning’s Retroflex (Flexible x Selma De La Batia).
Long expressed gratitude for her team, “I want to thank his owner, Alan Manning. I am so appreciative of him and all of his support.”
Long has competed in numerous featured classes with the 10-year-old Canadian Warmblood gelding and was searching for a win to close out her winter circuit. “He is 10 this year. I have had him for three years and we are really clicking now. He is really careful and competitive because he is so quick across the ground. We manifested this for my last trip down here this winter!”
In 36.898 seconds, Long moved to the top of the leaderboard to go home with the blue ribbon.
“There were lots of bending lines. The jump-off track [Michael Janson] left open in a few places. I chose to take both inside tracks and it worked out for me today,” Long shared about the short course.
Michael Janson earned another top placing with his seasoned 17-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding, Caveman Z (Carthargo Z x Amelia Z), in 38.094 seconds for second place.
Rounding out the podium was Sarah Meier (USA) and her own 12-year-old Selle Francais gelding, Brook De Brekka (Dolla Du Murier x Ugano SItteunknown), with four-faults in 37.489 seconds in the jump-off.
