Ocala, FL – The penultimate week of the 2023 Ocala Summer Series closed with an elite field of show jumping athletes vying for the lion’s share of the prize money in the $10,000 THIS 1.40m Jumper Classic. Sharn Wordley (NZL) claimed the win and the champion title aboard Della Wordley’s Brin D’or De Haute Melen Z (Bamako De Muze x Perle D’or De Saulieu).
FEI Level II course designer Doug Russell (USA) crafted the classic tracks that allowed an even eight pairs to advance to the immediate jump-off, but only three horse-and-rider combinations were able to yield a double-clean effort.
Sharn Wordley (NZL) and the careful nine-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding made light work of the first-round track to advance straight to the short course. “I was patient down the first line, making sure he’s confident, then I galloped a little and was lucky enough to win it.”
The pair stopped the clock at 41.451 seconds to seal the victory and the 1.40m champion title.
Wordley spoke about the promising gelding, “He did his first FEI CSI3* competition earlier this summer here at WEC. He was good, he placed in the ranking classes and that was the biggest class he’s done. He’s competitive at whatever level he can jump to – right now, he’s jumping the 1.45m, so I am hoping he can do the grands prix here this winter. He’s a really cool horse and a lot of fun to ride.”
Chloe Reid (USA) snagged second and third place. She was just shy of the winning time by two tenths of a second aboard Live Oak Plantation’s eight-year-old Oldenburg mare Chelsea 179 (Cador x Laudana) in 41.727 seconds.
Reid rounded out the top three with the 13-year-old Hanoverian mare Charlotta II (Contendro I x Grafin Clara), owned by Live Oak Plantation with a posted time of 44.193 seconds.
