Ocala, FL – A picturesque Sunny Florida day set the stage for the $24,000 C. Jarvis Insurance Welcome Prix during the final week of the 2023 Winter Spectacular Show Series. Kevin Holowack (CAN) laid the tracks for 26 top-level athletes representing eight nations where an even 12 qualified for the returning jump-off. At the end of the class, Tracy Fenney (USA) secured her third Welcome Prix victory during the 12-week circuit aboard crowd favorite, MTM Apple (Favorit Ask x Kong’s Whopsie).
Fenney spoke about today’s tracks, “It walked how it rode. The horses were a bit spooky with the shadows and waterfall, but everything else was pretty straightforward.”
Fenney qualified for the jump-off on both of her mounts, “I came back first on McIntosh. He was a bit wiggly from one to two past the waterfall, but this was really his first class here, so I was ecstatic with him,” said Fenney.
“I watched Cian O’Connor go before me and he tried to do seven to the last, and I thought eight was hard enough. I actually think I ended up doing nine with Apple, but I was quick everywhere else. The goal was to have enough horse for Saturday night,” shared Fenney.
The seasoned pair flew through the timers stopping the clock at a blistering fast time of 29.804 seconds.
Max Wachman (IRL) and Coolmore Showjumping’s 14-year-old Oldenburg gelding Quintini (Quintender 2 x Cassandra) were just shy of the winning time in 30.557 seconds to secure the second-place spot on the leaderboard.
Vicente Guillen (VEN) and Tranquility Farms’ ten-year-old LA Silla mare Rustica LS LA Silla (Rubens LS x Escarlata LS) finished out the podium with a quick and clear time in 31.138 seconds.
