Wilmington, Ohio – This week’s Wilmington Sunday Spotlight shines on Zara Dow. The seven-year-old rider can be found on many ponies at her family farm, Crailin Stables, in Ontario, Canada, and at both WEC venues. We sat down with Zara after her win in the Walk Trot Equitation Ground Rails to learn more about two of her ponies, Petunia and Mr. Toffee, and her favorite things about WEC!

WEC: What is your favorite thing about riding?
I think cantering is my favorite thing about riding. I also like to ride Petunia bareback trotting.

WEC: Tell us about your ponies.
Petunia and Toffee are the ponies. Toffee is a bay. I can trot cross rails on him. I won the ground poles today!
We just took Petunia to Florida. We were at WEC – Ocala. I showed her in the Walk Trot Ground Rails, and I got two first places there. I also got a second place, a third place and a fourth place.

WEC: What is your favorite store at WEC?
The Sugar Shack. I like to get the sour candies!
WEC: What is Petunia like in the barn?
We call her Potato because she is lazy. She just hangs out and doesn’t do more than she has to. Her favorite treats are apples and mints.

WEC: What is Toffee like in the barn?
Toffee’s favorite treat is everything. When he is hungry, he eats anything.
WEC: What is your favorite thing to do at WEC when you’re not riding?
I love the jumping room. I have a lot of friends at WEC that always jump with me too. And I go to the candy store.

WEC: You ride with your twin brother. What is your favorite thing about it?
Probably when we get to do an under saddle together. I try to be competitive against him.

WEC: What is your favorite thing about riding at your barn at home?
I like my dill pickle pretzels. I always have snacks at the barn. I also love brushing my ponies.
WEC: What is your big riding goal?
I want to jump on a horse one day. I want to do the hunters, not the jumpers. I will go fast, maybe one day.

WEC: How do you do your schoolwork and horse show?
I am in grade two. I am on March break now, but usually my Nana brings her big books and I have to do three pages of each one. My Nana brings curriculum, so I do Math and English, so I do schoolwork with her at the shows.
