Ocala, FL – Week X of the 2023 Winter Spectacular Show Series at World Equestrian Center – Ocala came to a close this afternoon with the $15,000 Taylor Harris Insurance Services 1.45m Jumper Classic. Canada’s Sean Jobin bested a top-level field of show jumpers for the win aboard Antrim Equestrian’s Sterrehof’s Edinus (Padinus x Idylle).
The athletes gave their all over Catsy Cruz’s (MEX) classic tracks, but only four managed to make their way to the jump-off.
Michelle Lang (AUS) and her own KS Rubellite (Emerald x KS G Star) were the first pair to attempt Cruz’s jump-off track. Lang and the nine-year-old Warmblood mare were quick and clear in 45.156 seconds to set the pace.
Sean Jobin (CAN) followed immediately after with Sterrehof’s Edinus. The short track was right up Jobin and the 14-year-old KWPN gelding’s alley, “’Edinus’ has a huge gallop and a really big step, so I wanted to make use of that. The first five jumps were all gallop jumps, then I wanted to keep the turns nice and tidy. We found some good distances off the turns and did some nice leave outs.”
The pair dashed around the track in 44.762 seconds which held rank for the remainder of the class.
Sterrehof’s Edinus is a new partner for Jobin, “I have been riding him for about four months. He had an incredible career with Marc Houtzager in Europe before he was sold. Then he had a bunch of riders here in America. Juan Ortiz and McLain Ward helped me get the seat on him which I am super grateful for. It’s really exciting to get to ride a horse with that kind of pedigree. For the past few months we have been getting to know and trust each other. The confidence he has is unreal and he’s extremely careful,” shared Jobin.
“We moved him into the FEI for the first-time last week. He was clear in both rounds. The goal is to do a few two- and three-star grands prix this year. He’s a very consistent horse and always tries,” expressed Jobin.
Aaron Vale (USA) attempted to snag the lead a bit later in the order aboard Linda Bammann’s Elvis De Wijnendaele Z (Elvis Ter Putte x Montana V), but had a heartbreaking rail at the final fence in 39.031 seconds which was good for third place.
