Derby Friday was back this week with fabulous hunters taking to the outdoor show complex at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington today to contest three Hunter Derby courses.
Jeff Gogul of Flagship, Wilmington, Ohio and No Doubt (Nerrado x Abba II) owned by Roaring Brook, LLC, captured the win in the $12,500 WEC Hunter Derby 3’6″-3’9″. The elegant pair delivered a nearly flawless first round that earned them a 94. Their smooth and tidy handy round earned score of 95, for an unbeatable total of 189.
Gogul checked in with us after the class to share his thoughts. “The course was set up beautifully and he was beautiful to ride today. He was soft in every way…it felt effortless.”
Melissa Donnelly of Just a Folly Farm, Oxford, Michigan, earned a second place finish aboard Elizabeth Becker’s Corlando 49 (Cartani x Olanda I). The stylish duo scored a pair of 90s for a total of 180.
Ryan Genn of Reinland Farm in Lebanon, Ohio, rode Dante’s Inferno (Diardo) to a third place finish earning an 88 in the first round, followed by an 89 in the handy round for a total of 172.

David Beisel and MTM Victorious in the $10,000 WEC Hunter Derby 3′ Open
David Beisel of David Beisel Stables, Goshen, Ohio was in the winners circle again today. This time piloting MTM Bentley to victory in the $10,000 WEC Hunter Derby 3′ Open class.
Beisel and MTM Bentley (Bonaparte Z x Hot Cherie P) scored an impressive 88 in their first round. Beisel and the 8-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding had a tremendous ride in the handy scoring a 91 for a total of 179.
Aubrey L. Sears of Milestone Equestrian, Goshen, Ohio, rode Cosmo Cool (Check In x Winga) to a second place finish this afternoon. Sears and the 2007 Oldenburg gelding scored an impressive 86 in the first round and came back to deliver an 84 in the handy round for a total of 170.
Laurie C. Storey and Pursuit (Leovisto x Larissa XXII ) were third place finishers in the competitive class scoring an 81 in the first round. Storey and the 6-year-old Holsteiner gelding earned a handy score of 86 for a total of 167.

Addison McQuaker & Golden Ticket Take the $10,000 WEC Hunter Derby 3′ Non-Pro Win
Addison McQuaker and her own Golden Ticket (Stakkato Gold) jumped to win the $10,000 WEC Hunter Derby 3′ Non-Pro. The pair earned the top score of 86 in their first round, and secured a handy round score of 85 for a total of 171.
Addison and ‘Snoopy’, a 5-year-old Oldenburg gelding, of Gryphon Farms, made the journey from Canada to compete in this week’s events at the World Equestrian Center. Addison and Snoopy have been a team for a little over a year and have already won several Derbies at WEC – Ocala, Florida, this past winter.
Kiera C. Phlipot and Red Roc ( Roc USA x Rhea) rode to a second place finsh. Red Roc and Philpot earned a score of 83 in the first round, followed by an 84 in the handy round for a total of 167.
Samantha Roper and Synchronicity rounded out the top three. The pair scored a 72 in the first round, followed by an 80 in the handy round for a total of 152.
