World Equestrian Center – Ocala’s A Sudden Impulse NSBA Show and Futurity kicked off on Wednesday with top all-around western sport.
Today’s featured class action included L1/Green Ranch Riding, Junior Ranch Riding, L1/L2 Senior Ranch Riding, $2,000 NSBA Limited Rider 3-Year-Old Western Pleasure and $2,000 NSBA $10,000 Limited Horse Maturity Open Western Pleasure where each horse-and-rider combination brilliantly showcased the diversity of several different stock horse breeds.
Kenny Lakins of Wilmington, Ohio, and Extremely Lazy (Extremely Hot Chips x Ima Fancy Affair), captured this evening’s $2,000 NSBA $10,000 LTD Horse Maturity Open Western Pleasure win under the sunset and in the shadow of the Equestrian Hotel’s Grand Arena.
Kenny chatted with us about the success story of this great mare. “She’s been a diamond in the rough and we have waited a long time to get here. We didn’t get her until she was four and she has had many curve balls thrown her way… She was stuck in her mother at birth, and unfortunately, her mother didn’t make it. I have been very fortunate to have her. This mare has a great brain – which means she always gives 110 percent. She tries her butt off. The more I ask, the more she gives. She’s special.” During this evening’s class, Steve & Tanya Relander’s six-year-old mare showed off their best gaits to top the judge’s scorecards.

Winning the $2,000 NSBA Limited Rider 3-Year-Old Western Pleasure was Brad Ost of Empyre Show Horses and Morgan Miller’s Got What I Got (Mr Sherlock Holmes x Hot Cookin Cookie). “When you watch her go, her head and neck stand out. She carries herself very well. It is a little nerve-racking letting her stick her nose out so far but I know it looks good. She just goes around so naturally.” mentioned Brad Ost when asked about his winning mount. The 2019 filly and Ost rode away with an NSBA Bronze and the first-place purple neck ribbon.

Friday’s ranch classes wrapped up with Shannon Quinlan Hill and Blackjack Bhooty (West Coasts FInest x Sheza Bhoot Jac) securing the top placing in the $2,000 NSBA Senior Ranch Riding. WEC chatted with Shannon ringside. “Blackjack Bhooty is a lot of fun to do the extended gates on. You can push him as hard as you want, you know that he is going to come right back to you. He’s so reliable to show and there’s nothing to worry about at this point in his career. He’s a very special horse.” She and the black 2011 Quarter Horse seemingly worked perfectly in unison to deliver top-scoring maneuvers winning the grand prize. This is another win to add to Quinlan-Hill and Blackjack Bhooty’s long list of accomplishments which includes several top national titles.
