Ocala, FL – Week VI of the 2023 Ocala Summer Series came to a close this afternoon as 22 elite equestrians competed over tracks built by FEI Level II course designer Tucker Williams (USA) in the $10,000 THIS 1.40m Jumper Classic. Luis Pedro Biraben (ARG) and Miguel Madero’s Chapeau PS Z (Comilfo Plus Z x Calato’s Lady PS Z) snagged the victory by one tenth of a second to finish out their week with a win.
The first round track proved to be challenging with a tight time allowed of 82 seconds that caught out a handful of athletes. However, five top-notch combinations found the golden path to a clear round to qualify for the immediate jump-off.
Biraben was the second athlete to punch the ticket for the tiebreaker and was up against a quick time to beat. Biraben and the nine-year-old Zangersheide stallion stayed tidy and found each fence on an open gallop to stop the clock at 41.641 seconds to slide their way into first place.
It’s been a two-year partnership for Biraben and Chapeau PS Z, “He’s a very nice young horse, he’s been successful in the 1.40m and 1.50m. He’s showed in the three-stars here a few weeks ago and had good results.”
Pathfinder Dorothy Douglas (USA) secured second place honors with Nina Koloseike’s 10-year-old Holsteiner gelding MTM Cedrik (Colman x Vicky Vi) with a time just shy of the win in 41.709 seconds.
Brooke Kemper (USA) and CM Sporthorses, LLC’s eight-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding Seaview Demonstration (Fss Correlli Bravo x Galloway Star) rounded out the podium with a clear ride in 43.071 seconds.
