Ocala, FL – National show jumping competition for week IV of the 2023 Winter Spectacular Show Series at World Equestrian Center – Ocala culminated this afternoon as an elite field of horse-and-rider combinations competed for the top prize in the $15,000 Taylor Harris Insurance Services 1.45m Jumper Classic. Kenny Krome (USA) set the closing tracks where Santiago Lambre and his own The Diamant Rose Z (Toulon x Diamant Z) found the path to the fastest clear round in the jump-off to gallop away with the victory.
Krome’s tracks proved to be a challenge as only five managed to qualify for the immediate jump-off and three jumped double-clean.
Vicente Guillen (VEN) and Cornut GP (Cornet Obolensky x Baloudera) owned by Rafael Celis were the first pair to deliver a clean first round to advance to the immediate jump-off. Guillen and the ten-year-old Oldenburg stallion put forth a stellar effort in 36.963 seconds to set the pace.
David Cameron (AUS) found the next double-clear effort aboard the 12-year-old Zangershiede gelding Alan 111 Z (Arko III x Vilotte) owned by Linda Huddy and Sally Watkins. The pair raced around the jump-off track, finding each fence out of stride to stop the clock at 39.505 seconds.
The last double-clear ride was secured by Santiago Lambre and The Diamant Rose Z. Lambre and the 12-year-old Zangersheide mare produced an efficient first round well under the time allowed toward the end of the order, to qualify for the immediate jump-off.
Lambre spoke about this week’s tracks, “The courses all week have been technical. They have been a lot of fun to ride, and it has been great practice for the horses. The grand prix course last night was perfect, and the course today rode well for the number of entries in the class,” said Lambre. “I decided to compete The Diamant Rose Z today, because I retired last night, and wanted to end the week on a good note.”
When it came time for the jump-off, Lambre had a plan, “I watched Vicente’s trip and he was fast, but I knew I could be a little quicker in the beginning. So I was fast through the first half, so I could balance to the double combination, then I went full speed ahead to the last two.”
The pair flew through the timers, stopping the clock at 35.814 seconds for the victory.
