World Equestrian Center and Kentucky Horse Shows LLC Partner to Host Expansive 2019 Hunter Derby Series with Spectacular Finale

16 Shows beginning this week featuring USHJA National and 2’6” Hunter Derby Action and a Grand Finale Featuring Three $10,000 Hunter Derby Classes and $10,000 in Leading Rider Awards

WILMINGTON, Ohio – May 10, 2019 – The World Equestrian Center and Kentucky Horse Shows LLC will once again host a USHJA National Hunter Derby Series, offering both “Junior/Amateur” and “Open”options at their respective Spring / Summer USEF recognized horse shows. In an effort to make the exciting Hunter Derby experience available to more exhibitors, the World Equestrian Center and Kentucky Horse Shows LLC have expanded their ongoing Hunter Derby collaboration to include a new 2’6” WEC Hunter Derby (Non-Pro) Series. Both the USHJA National Hunter Derby Series and the 2’6” WEC Hunter Derby Series kick off this weekend at the Kentucky Spring Show.

The Hunter Derby classes in the World Equestrian Center and Kentucky Horse Shows LLC Series will run at 16 horse shows from May – October and conclude with an incredible grand finale including three $10,000 Hunter Derbies (2’6”, USHJA National Pro and USHJA National) and $10,000 in Leading Rider Awards among other prizes.

NEW! WEC 2’6” Hunter Derby Series

The World Equestrian Center and Kentucky Horse Shows LLC offer non-pro exhibitors at the 2’6” level two ways to enjoy the Hunter Derby experience this show season. The Kentucky Horse shows listed below will offer a WEC $1,000 2’6” Non-Pro Hunter Derby*. The FIRST (9) WEC Horse Shows listed below will offer a WEC $2,000 2’6” Non-Pro Hunter Derby**.

The World Equestrian Center and Kentucky Horse Shows LLC 2’6” Hunter Derby Series will conclude with the 1st Annual WEC $10,000 2’6” Non-Pro Hunter Derby sponsored by Dover Saddlery which will take place at the World Equestrian Center Invitational from October 22-27, 2019 in Wilmington, Ohio.

The World Equestrian Center and Kentucky Horse Shows LLC 2’6” Hunter Derby classes are open to all Junior and Amateur riders.  Riders competing in these classes may not participate in any class at the same show with fences higher than 2’9” (exception:  Large Pony).  Fences to be set at 2’6”.  The first round will be conducted over a traditional hunter course and scored numerically.  The top 12 horses from the first round will return to compete over a second course.  In the second round, handiness will be emphasized and reflected in the numerical score.

Following are the horse shows offering the World Equestrian Center and Kentucky Horse Shows LLC Hunter Derby classes:

 

$10,000 LEADING RIDER AWARDS

A $5,000 cash prize will be awarded to the professional rider accumulating the most points in the fifteen (15) classes that make up the 2019 World Equestrian Center/Kentucky Horse Shows series.

The amateur rider and junior rider accumulating the most points will each receive a $2,500 cash prize. Riders will receive points only on their highest placed horse in each of the classes. All of the series classes are open to all horses and riders, except that each show may exercise the option of offering either one National Derby open to all or one National Derby open to all and one restricted to Juniors and Amateurs (Non Pro). Riders may only win points in one class at each show.

The awards will be presented at the conclusion of the final series classes at the World Equestrian Center Invitational, October 22 – 27, 2019, at which riders will receive double WEC points***. In the event of a tie for any of the Leading Rider Awards, the award will be given to the rider who has received points in the most classes. Points will be awarded to the top ten separate individual riders in each class as follows: 250-225-200-175-150-125-100-75-50-25.

World Equestrian Center Membership Points

World Equestrian Center Membership Points towards their Year End Banquet will be awarded to the top 10 in each Class Listed above as follows:

250-225-200-175-150-125-100-75-50-25. All exhibitors are encouraged to join although a WEC Membership is NOT required to participate in the classes listed above. For more information or to register as a WEC Member, click here.
